Default Do WCs straight from tap with prime kill BB?

I do 40 percent water changes a day straight from tap. I add prime into existing water before I add the fresh water. Will this kill beneficial bacteria?

The fish love the water changes. Thanks

Nope. It just removes chlorine, and chloramine. I add prime to my existing water during water changes. I think that’s how most people do it.

So you don't put Prime into your aging barrel? I always wondered when to add Prime. I just started but I've been putting prime into the aging barrel whenever I fill it.

Its not the prime or chlorine you need to worry about going straight from the tap. Its the pH swing. Test the water straight out of the tap and the water in your tank. If they are different you will have a problem, if they are the same you can do it this way.

Thanks everyone ! My concern is the prime not having a chance to neautralize the chlorine in the fresh water which in turn would kill the bb.

    Thanks for clarifying

Prime and safe instantly removes chlorine /chloramine from the tap water , in a matter of seconds .
Keep in mind that if you dose it straight in the tank , you should dose for the full tank capacity , and not just the amount of water changed .

I used to put it in aging barrel, but it created a slimy film. Once I started dosing in the tank as Filip recommended (for the entire tank volume) no more slime. It was probably Filip who solved my problem then, so belated thanks Filip if I didn’t thank you a few years ago.

During warmer weather, I use tap water. During colder weather, I age the water in barrels. In both cases, I add Prime into the tank and have never had a problem.

Wow ok now I know to dose the entire tank rather than just the amount of water changed...thank you Filip

Thank you! Yeah I noticed part of my heater was really slippery in the aging barrel. It's not necessarily harmful is it?

I have been 30% water change twice per week. Tap water but use a shower head to get great aeration. Water direct into the tank then the Prime added after. Fish hide for a few minutes then are out begging for the usual handout after the change. I am now wondering if I should add the Prime before I add the water from the tap as opposed to after.

Did not know as well. Next water change will be full tank dose of Prime. Good tip.

You only need to use enough prime to treat the water you are replacing, not the entire tank...
