Default How much air is sufficient for a sponge filter to work to it max?

Does more air through a sponge filter cause it to pull more particles into it? If so I would like to pump a lot of air through my sponge filters without disturbing the fish. They hate noise and turbulence as most discus. I know about power heads but even those can cause too much current through the tank.

    Thanks

You'll likely clog up your sponges very quickly, after which flow will slow down. Sponges are for biological filtration. If you need mechanical filtration, an outside filter, perhaps a canister, would need to be added.
