    Default Sick discus

I bought 6 discus almost a month ago..they were healthy and eating.after some days 1 of my discus shows symptoms like one clamped gill and other side inflamed..after that 3 of 6 discus was showing same symptoms. So I assumed it's a gill fluke issue and treated with PP twice.after that clamped gill issue was resolved but gill is still inflamed .one of these 3 discus are very lethargic and
mostly hiding in corners and most of the time head pointing downwards. I am adding salt 100 gm/ 100 l for the past 7 days and treating with commercial antibacterial medicine. I am ageing my water also before adding but no improvement.feeling very bad for them..

    Problem

    1. Please explain the problems with your fish. When did you notice the problems and did anything unusual happen that you think started them?

Bought 6 discus 1 months ago. I didn't disinfect my tank before putting those fishes. They were fine eating and roaming in the tank.after 4 days one of my discus stopped eating, next day I saw other one is effected.I looked closely and saw one side of gill was not working and other side was inflamed

    2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds).

They are not interested in food..one of the affected discus sometimes shows interest in food but most of the time it splits food from mouth or stare at the food. At first I notified clamped gill.they were flashing / darting against the heater or filter. I saw them doing white poop (two out of three) . They have mucus hanging from gill. One discus hiding in the corner slightly headstanding position but not all the time

    3. What medications/ treatments have you already tried and what were the results. Include dosage and duration of treatment.

PP treatment twice @2ppm .. then commercial antibacterial powder. Now no medicine just adding 100gm salt/ 100l water

    Tank/Water

    4. Tank size and ages, numbers and sizes of fish.

    180l tank..fish size one 5 inch one 4 inch other 3.5 to 3 inch.total 6

    5. Water change regime (What percentage and how often).

Daily 50 percent. As I removed filter during treatment period now I change 90 percent water daily

    6. How long has tank been running? Is it bare bottom? If you have substrate, what type and how deep is it?

It is a bare bottom tank..tank is running for approximately 1 and half month

    7. Do you age your water? If you do for how long and what is the ph swing.

At first I didn't age my water.I filled water from direct tap but very slowly..90l in 4-5 hours .But now I age and preheat my water 24 hours before adding to tank.using prime as dechlorinator but I think chlorine content is less but iron/sodium content is high. TDS 500.
    Never checked for Ph swing.

    8. Parameters and water source;

Note: Water Parameters are important in diagnosing problems within a tank. If you don't own test kits for the following information, you can purchase them, test your parameters and post this info as soon as possible.

    - temp __28c___

    - ph _8___
    GH -7
    - ammonia reading ____

    - nitrite reading ____

    - nitrate reading ____

What type of water or combinations of water sources do you use? If it is an RO/tap/well water mix, please list percentages in the mix.

    - well water ____

    - municipal water ____municipal water 100 percent ( ground water )

    - RO water ____

    9. Any new fish, plants or inverts added recently.

    No

    10. Please tell us what you feed your fish and how often. This can be critical information for solving the problem so be as specific as you can.

Heart mix and Australian blackworms freeze dried six to seven times.now feeding is off as Tank doesn't have filter

    11. Include any pictures or videos you have which shows the symptoms. If you can't add them to this post, please provide a link to them.

Bought 6 discus a month ago.4-5 days after introducing fishes in my tank I saw one of my discus has clamped gill on one side other side is inflamed.after 2 days 2 more discus were affected

    2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds).

Excess mucus in gill.. not interested in food.. flashing and darting , white poop . But after pp and salt treatment flashing and darting and clamped gill symptoms gone now they have inflamed gills. Sometimes they hide in headstanding position.

    3. What medications/ treatments have you already tried and what were the results. Include dosage and duration of treatment.

Pp twice and salt 100gm per 100litre of water..

    Tank/Water

    4. Tank size and ages, numbers and sizes of fish.
180 litre tank . 2 months old tank total 6 fish one 5 inch fish one 4 inch rest 3 to 3.5 inch ( no bullying)

    5. Water change regime (What percentage and how often).

50 percent daily ..after pp removed filter so now 90 percent daily

    6. How long has tank been running? Is it bare bottom? If you have substrate, what type and how deep is it?

    Bare bottom tank

    7. Do you age your water? If you do for how long and what is the ph swing

At first I didn't age my water. Now I age and preheat water for 24 hrs before adding.never measured pH swing. Here iron content is relatively high.adding prime but chlorine content is low I think

I don't see any ammonia or nitrite readings... You may be having bio filter issues here and should check that.

also check your water to be sure you arent stressing them with 90% water changes..do you age water?

Yes I age and preheat water for 24 hours with prime before adding to tank now. But when this problem started that time I didn't age my water. I thought it was gill fluke issue so I did PP treatment twice and removed filter..after that I didn't put filter back in aquarium.I don't have any ammonia or nitrite test kit. Will buy those test kits soon.
