Any vapers out there, let my idiocy be a lesson to everyone. Wash your hands before sticking them in your tank. My vape was leaking, didn’t take notice, went to vaccum my tank, an hour later all 4 Redbacks, all my Corydoras metae, kanei similis and CW028 started showing crazy neurological signs and died within the hour. I was lucky not to wipe the whole tank out, including 36 wild discus. Nicotine is poison (duh) to fish, the tiniest amount is enough to kill anything.

I'm a vaper and I will remember this and wash my hands. Thank God you didn't loose any Discus.How did you figure out that the vaping device was leaking?

It was leaking properly, couldn’t miss it. Has been for days, but haven’t fiddled with any of the tanks before today.
Took me a while to connect the dots, but the symptoms screamed poison, not water parameters or even chlorine (did a water change with the vacuuming). And the fact that it affected exactly those 5 species, and none of the plecos, other cories etc.
just glad i figured it out (I guess anyway) before keeping on sticking my hands in there or the other 2 tanks.

I haven’t had a cigarette in 2 days and I’m miserable. Today is day 3. I guess I won’t vape and risk killing my fish, but humans be warned. Ha ha

I’m glad my habit is the discus instead of the other way around. Sorry for the loss. I work with a lot of chemicals and adhesives and one in particular has a picture of a fish with a skull and crossbones next to it.so if I’m using that I wear nitrile gloves and still scrub my hands before doing anything tank related.
