Do you have substrate in your tank or is it BB?
Hey there,
I ran into a little fungus problem with excess waste/food in my tank so wondering what your daily schedule is for maintaining clear water. I mean the specifics: feed only in the AM, WC at end of day, etc? I feed 3x a day and will be stepping up to daily WC from every other day, but just wondering what the best order of feedings & WCs should be to ensure the team is not sitting in water with poop in it for too long.

Hi Liz, it's BB. Here is the full story in the ER: http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showth...ts-on-tail-fin
Lionheart, where in Ohio are you?

I can't help you, I'm afraid. Try feeding them, giving them 1/2 hr to eat and then siphon the rest off the bottom. I hope Al can come up with a better idea.

Thanks, Liz. Yeah, Toledo area.
Again, I was just curious what folks did daily regarding feeding & water change. Previous, my schedule looked like this:
9:00 AM Beefheart
2:00 PM FDBW
5:00 PM 50% WC every other day (75% on weekend)
8:00 PM FDBW or little Biogold
7 am Al's soft pellet
12 pm Teenie Greenie pellets
At 4 pm 50 to 75% WC
Then I do what nobody else does. I give a feeding of Al's freeze dried black worms. After WC is my favorite time to sit and watch the fish. If they clean up the first feeding of worms, I give them seconds. I have even given them a 3rd serving! I'm watching them so I know if they clean everything up or not.
With fry and young jubies I feed more often and give them more variety. The amount of water I change depends on the size of the tank and the number of Discus kids.

yeah I think my issue was that I was changing water at noon for while, and 2 feedings after that.
You can't simplify the WC to a certain percentage because it's dependable on so many factors such as Bioload , fish age , feedings , your goals , temp . , Filtration etc.etc.
The best way IMO would be to guide yourself by the discus reactions and increase WC when they look sick and allow to slack on WCs here and there when they look optimal .
3xday tropical gran, beef heart, mix tetra gran tropical gran and spirulina gran WC every 3 day 50%
