Default 3d background or driftwood aquascape...

Im having trouble deciding between a 3d background for a 135gallon or to do large pieces of driftwood/rocks.

This would be the 3d background I am thinking about...

And if I decide to get driftwood, wheres the best place I can find large pieces? Do any websites sell them?

I have both, and I definitely prefer the wood/black background to the 3d. Nothing wrong with either though, but if I had to choose again, I would not get the 3d. It looks great, but I’ve grown tired of it within a few months, whereas I still love the hardscape in the other tank, which has been up a year longer, too.

Have you considered artificial driftwood for the largest pieces? Check this out: http://www.yourfishstuff.com/tree-stump

Question about the 3d backgrounds. What about the paint.Does it come off in time due to cleaning algae and wiping it down?Do they last a long time and stay looking good? Are they easy to clean?I was considering one too.

I recently bought a beautiful piece of manzanita wood and was so happy with the look after plopping it in the tank, but the white film and tannins released quickly messed up my water and my fish. I’m curing it in a barrel now and figure it’s going to take at least a couple months before it’s in the tank due to its thickness and size. Just a cautionary tale...
