True RO?
So awhile back I purchased a breeding pair. The guy told me he only used RO water. He said he purchased the water from the large machine at Walmart. Is Walmart water really RO? Lol. He did have success

Re: True RO?
I've bought similar water from a nice 4-spout machine at an area grocery store. The machine lists it's filter steps/elements, which include RO. You might see what you can find on the machine. Otherwise, check it with a tds meter. If I recall correctly, it was at least as low as what I get from my filters at home. I want to say 15, but maybe too low. Definitely less than 30.

Re: True RO?
Thats got to get expensive. Not to mention must be a pain to do water changes.
You can pick up a cheap ro unit on ebay for under $100.

Re: True RO?
Leave it to AL. That's the better advice. You'd need a place for some collecting barrels of some sort. I paid 25 cents /gallon using 5 gal jugs. Definitely is more convenient having my own filter. I still sometimes but if I need extra, or it's too cold and i need to turn off my supply line to the filters.

Re: True RO?
There are differences in RO membranes. The higher the gallons per day (GPD), the more stuff is allowed through. And I'm guessing the coin-op water dispensers at Walmart are such filters, similar to whole house RO units. Whereas, aquarium units are lower output, usually 50-100 gpd, and have higher rejection rates. I'd get an RO unit, new or used, and go with that. Best money I've ever spent. And look around on craigslist or something for a cheap food grade barrel for water storage. I see reefers at my LFS, hauling in water containers for RO and shake my head at all the hassle they go through.
