    Default Diatoms/ emergency

    I recently purchased a marineland polisher n decided to use the diatom powder to clean the tank even more,i purchased the correct de,i put the polisher in a bucket of water and turned it on adding some de,it sucked it up and the water cleared,when i put it into my tank and turned it on it spit de into my tank,i pulled it out of the aquarium asap,im draining the wAter now,will this kill my fish??im freaking out,thanks for any help

    Shouldn't harm them, I think any of us who have used diatom filters have had that happen. Its not toxic.

    ...you should be alright....but next time fill the jar w/water, powder ....put both intake, and out flow, in a large 32 oz old pop cup of the tank water, clip or hold the cup against the top of the tank... turn on til powder oats the bag....then while still running...slide the cup down and take it off.....

    ..anyone using a 'Diatom' filter will have a 'poof' moment now and then...you could have just left it running and you would have recovered the powder from the tank after a bit....
