Default After 115 days new batch of wigglers...

Well, as some of you know I just came back into discus last year after taking a 5 year break. I purchased new discus from Kenny three 6" Curipera cross's non sexed discus along side three striped Alenquer' cross's. Don't ask me the cross's cause I can't tell you, well I was having a hard time trying to sex them being from what I thought I knew and what eventually became my pairs. The pair that just produced there first viable clutch are a 6+" Curipera cross male and a 5.5" striped Alenquer cross female. The picture below will show the pair with some wigglers still on the front of the cone made by Barb Ogders. When I first saw that they laid this past Friday I saw maybe 200 laid eggs, I didn't know how many would make it since I was playing with the ph/ro water quality aspect. Then I saw that this batch was going to make it seeing a lot of them turning dark. The next day I glanced in the tank and a lot of them were missing, so I thought they were eating them. Well today there was still some on the front of the cone, her on the front watching and him in the back just siting there. So I got my nerve up cause I didn't want to spook them since this was there first wigglers and if these were the only the ones on the front to make it I wanted to be cautious. I got a step ladder and looked from the top into the tank to see the back of the cone made by Barb Ogders and saw that they were transferring them to a new location away from my prying eyes, I really can't make an assumption on how many are there but I'm thinking about half. So now all the fun begins after I find out how good of parents these two will be in the coming weeks...……………….Jim in Ohio

Thanks, I may have been a little optimistic on the size of the babies but I'm sure it's close...………...Jim in Ohio

Well, it's 6 days free swimming I feel that there's around forty or more fries. I started feeding BBS yesterday twice a day then a good w/c, I think I'll leave them with the parents they are both so good with them. If something should change with the parents behavior and them I will do what is appropriate...…………...Jim in Ohio

Dad was not eating that I saw while he was with babies, so for his good will I decided to remove him and get him back on track.

Babies are 50 days old, no color what so ever to speak of so far showing. Since my better half has told me no new tanks, I have decided to place 10 or 11 babies to a 29 gallon tank for now hoping that soon I can convince her that it is in the babies best interest. So that's at least 10 babies to a tank I have three 29's set up, I do have another pair ready for breeding a striped red Alenquer and a huge Santarem from Han's but their on hold till I can get these up to around 3" hopefully. So here they are enjoy...………………….Jim in Ohio
