Flow in purigen reactor.

Hi

I got 2 media reactors (0.7gl / 2.6 liter) that i want to add to my tank.
I'm think of adding some fine floss or similar to the first and seachem purigen to the second.
I'll be running this from my canister filter rated 530 gl / 2000 liter per hour.

Does anyone have an idea if the flow will be too much for the purigen?
I'm thinking of making a bypass but parts are really expensive here.

Any 'guestimates' are welcome 😊

I think this depends on how long you want it to last. So this depends on your nitrogenous waste load and amount of purigen you want to use. You probably will have to experiment with flow rate.

You can force huge flow rate but that will shorten the life of purigen needing frequent replacement. With lower flow rates it will last longer. High flow rate will bring down nitrate quickly but may see it creep up quickly too as purigen quickly gets exhausted. Slower flow rate will probably keep the nitrate lower for a longer time but higher than with high flow rate.

But I don't think there's a limit to the flow rate

Purgen is very easy ,almost free floating resin and it requires very slow water flow through reactor .Otherwise it will bunch up and clog on the top of the your reactor .
You must do bypass or separate very weak pump and install a flow valve to fine tune the flow and achieve that desired tumbling effect seen on purigen reactor videos .

The longer the water contacts the purigen the better. This was from seachem when i asked them about a fluidized bed filter if it. A very slow tumble with at least 4" in the clear at the top. I run a liter of purigen in my lifeguard bed filter at less than 50gph. It works very good

By the looks of it a bypass is needed.
Guess I gotta do som pipe drawings and measurements.
I'm not even sure I can fit it all in the cabinet 🤔
