Looks like the fry will mainly be Pigeonbloods.

    Hi Cliff
How can you tell at this stage... Even close up with my glasses on all I see is a dot with a tail. :-D
I'm fine with that... The first discus I ever saw was a pb and that's what drew me into this hell... I've always had a soft spot for them

I agree with Cliff. The fry are very pale colored compared to what you would see if that was a non-pigeon pair of blue or red snakeskins. The good news is the pigeon is very very clean... you may not have the severely peppered fry we often see in these crosses. Maybe you will even get some pigeon snakeskins. I'm looking forward to seeing these fry grow.

Ironically I have a pair very similar with fry about to go free swimming. Dads the pb, and moms a blue turq from my snakeskin pair.. I hadn't planned on them breeding but they would not stop trying so I let them.
No idea what they will throw..probably won't like the results, ..but sometimes that fun of it.

On the parents question, I usually remove both as soon as the fry are on baby brine and leave the fry in the tank. If one parent isn't doing their job as well as the other and they are eating baby brine, they really don't need either parent and I don't like to split an otherwise good pair. Often times the reason why the pair isn't doing so well at parenting is one of them wants to breed again, so I pull them and let them.

Al has more experience than I but I prefer to leave the parents with the kids until they reach 3 weeks if the parents are happy with them.

Liz you are plenty experienced too. No problem at all with doing that Liz.. I have done that as well and longer ... Its a matter of choice and as long as they arent over grazing on the parents you can leave them together as long as you want... or until the pair spawns again.

Default Honeymoon is over... Removing Dad?

Things were going as described until late last night when I observed Dad looking very dark and first shaking the feeding fry loose and then darting at them very aggressively at which point Mom proceeded to beat the crap out of him. I witnessed this several times so I shut the lights off and things seem to calm down a bit.
This morning Dad has some color back but shortly after turning on the light the behavior started up again
From what I gather, Dad is on the small side and he just can't take the nibbling anymore. Though they do feed on Mom as I see the pair swim by each other and transfer fry, Dad is by far the meal of choice.
My plan is to move Dad out this morning, today being 2.5 weeks free swimming.
    Any input would be great
    Danke!

Removing dad seems like a good first step. Are there a lot of fry?

Thanks Pat... That's my initial thought too.
    I haven't counted but it's a small clutch, maybe 40.
That said now that I'm having some coffee I popped the light on and took a close look. Dad's pretty beat up with scrapes, tares and back to being really dark
Additionally there is one loss as I see a fry stuck on the filter intake. Can't be positive it was dad's fault but things were merry until last night and Mom and the rest look normal.

    What a difference a day makes :-(
I feel bad as I spent yesterday setting up a tank for some new arrivals and possibly missed early warnings.
He's been netted and half way to from whence he came.

A week away from the wife and kids and pops is almost back to 100%
Still sporting a little stress but not bad for a victim of domestic violence

Amazing how fast they can heal with just good clean water, isn't it?

That's all he got. . . he's a real trooper... And up until the last moment he really did do a stellar job
Mom's starting to become weary now so I'm keeping a close eye on her. She's still allowing them to feed, but more and more they're going for grown-up food so she'll be reunited with pops soon.
