What about iodine in the water? Can it be harmful to the fish. Al has a mentioned about swabbing hydrogen peroxide somewhere.

None of us know for sure what to do, We need Al but I can't bring myself to bother him. If he could be here he would be.

I'd add that swabbing is extreme and should be done with confidence and as a last resort.
The netting and securing of the fish will be stressful and remove much slime_coat.

    Interesting.
If you read on... People have even applied a triple antibiotic ointment.
I think if I did clean a wound with iodine or hydrogen peroxide, I would then apply the ointment as well.

Thanks everyone! Talked to Kenny at length just now and he suggested sticking to Furan 2 for now and treating the main tank as well. I do have metronidazole, H2O2, iodine and triple antibiotic ointment ready if at all needed. I also read somewhere that Furan 2 is effective compared to others in lower Ph and higher temperatures... I have one more day of the prescribed Furan 2 treatment, will monitor the prognosis and keep this group informed.

Once again, sincere thanks you all!

Concluding the thread with some positive note and steps I took for future reference, which is a collection of advises from various experts. In case of such problem i.e. a boil:
    1. Move the fish to QT set up
    2. Start antibiotic treatment, preferably Furan 2 (Furan 2 is effective against a wide spectrum of bacteria, both aerobic and anaerobic and also effective in discus water parameters i.e. low pH + high temperatures.) - strongly recommended by Kenny as well
    3. after 2 days of antibiotic treatment:
    (i) Using a scalpel blade (available in Walmart for $3-4) remove the boil by puncturing it or cutting it
(ii) Clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide
Cutting open is Stendker recommendation in one of pdf documents and 2 days of antibiotics prior to surgery is the precaution we use in dentistry when severe infection is suspected
    4. Continue antibiotic treatment for 4 more days in the QT set up
    5. Move the fish back to the original tank

Saved the red scribbled ... learnt this procedure and healing is fast. Red scribbled never showed any signs of deterioration ... looking back I just wish that I had reacted immediately after noticing the boil on turq.

Congratulations. You did some excellent research. Keep us up to date on the fishes recovery if you don't mind. It could be helpful to others. Pics are always better than text alone.

According to this product, they put iodine in it. It was in a post previously. When I say product it sorta blew me away. All the years of hearing about iodine not being good for fish and viola something new to me.
