    Default How hard is to hard?

    Gh = 249 kh = 195 ph = 8.08

    That said I have no interest in mixing R/O and tap water. Trying to stay as simple as possible after taking down my reef.

    So is this doable or should I pack it all up?

    There are numerous members here that keep discus in pH above 8...I have read that a high gH can make hatch rates drop if your looking to breed, but I have no experience to draw from to confirm or refute that info. In terms of keeping discus happy stability is the key to success, even with hard water and high pH...

    Have you tried aging/aerating some water for 24 hrs to see if you have a pH swing?

    That's roughly what we have here in AZ. Daniel said it all though, clean and consistent water is best.

    The water is 4 stage filtered just not RO water. It doesnt change much if any from filters to tanks. Last time I checked Gh was one drop higher.

    Just worried that the fish I order wont be happy with this rock called Kansas water.

    Keep it clean and fresh mate and they will be just fine. Peeps here don't even pH acclimate fish they have shipped...they float bags to temp adjust and do the plop and drop method and all is well!

    Planning on a drip system to keep water always changing itself so a quick daily vacuum of the floor should keep water very clean.

    Crazy acclimation lol

    I also have liquid rock water. ph is way over 9. hardness so high I don't even bother measuring. My discus came to me as 2" young, now they are almost full grown beauties, happy and healthy, eat only high quality dry foods, and get a 50% wc a day. Warm, clean water and good foods are the key. I don't want spawning, the water would keep eggs from hatching. Just pet fish.
