7" Curipera

This guys is a little over a year old and is over 7". Plenty of growth ahead. Do you think he can make it to 8???

Thanks Liz. After my other post that exposed their culls, I must also give them credit for this one. They were from Uncle Sam's, which is why I gave the a second chance. However, after my last purchase and lack of customer service, I would never risk trusting them again.

The other two I got with this one are smaller but still very large and show color more true to what to expect of a Curipera. They were about 3" when I got them a year ago this week.

What do you feed & what is you feeding schedule with your adult fish mate?

Danny, a pretty basic routine of Colorbits and my BH mix along with occasional FDBW's. They refuse to eat the floaters so I don't feed FDBW's very often. Due to the delays I've had in converting my fish room, the 3 of them have spent their entire lives in their original 40g QT tank with daily or every other day 75% water changes. With this technically less than ideal care, I'm amazed at their growth and very nice development of shape.

He was sold to me as a Curipera Cross. You can see what I think is a Turq type facial pattern with wild throwback throughout the body. If this guy were a pure wild, I would consider him priceless!

Beautiful fish. I have a really nice Alenquer that I received from Uncle Sam's as well. Not as nice as this one; but, he is my favorite discus.

I see it. I take an interest in your fish because I have begun collecting various wild cross fish. I have a Stripe Alenquer, Red Alenquer, Alenguer, and a Red Heckel. I would like to know what the cross was but like your beauty the base wild is there. I am going to attempt to pair two of those four to see what I can get. Do you have a plan for your fish? Show or breed?

He's got a slight bump in the forehead so I don't think he's quite show quality. Unfortunately, I think the other two I got along with him as males as well. I might look into finding a Curipera cross female or possibly a Cuipeua female and see if I can breed them. I'd really like to pass on the large physical genetics of this guy but I'd also like to stay away from the turqs...

The little bump on his head isn't noticeable in the pic, but I see it now that you mention it. What I saw of his main fault is a common one...a somewhat weak chin. But it's almost a sin to pick apart a fish of this quality. It's overall shape is and balance is to die for and what I feel most impressed is how perfectly his tail is set and the fact that it's not overly long like most of the imports we see today. Lots of people can claim to have a 7" fish when the penduncle is 3 times longer than it should be. You definitely need to breed this guy.

I agree, I am most impressed by the finnage on him.

Here's the other two that came with him. Judging by the angle of the dorsal and anal fins, I would usually say they are all males, but this is not a 100% way to tell. While they are both large and thick discus, and have more traditional Curipera colors, the one in the first photo is much larger.
