    Default Plants without substrate

I'm a beginner and have yet to set up my first discus tank. It is suggested that plants are just more trouble for novice discus keepers. Does this apply for plants that float on the surface or are in pots? The aquarium bottom will still be bare and easy to clean, while the plants will improve water quality and provide more surface area for beneficial bacteria. Perhaps there is some factor that I do not know and this is a bad idea. The plants I plan to use are Pistia and Echinodorus species.

Bare bottom with potted/floating or attached plants is totally doable. Many here at SD go that style so have at it bro!
