BBS is a great first food and promotes good growth and development at an early stage, but you can also use a coffee grinder to grind up just about any other foods as well. I grind up color bits and FDBW's. People also use Hikari First Bites...

BBS is an okay food, but I find that fry just do not grow very much on it - particularly after two weeks free swimming. My approach has been to wean them onto frozen beef heart as soon as possible. Just shave and throw it in the tank. I've had fry start to eat as early as four days free swimming, certainly a week after they go free swimming. The difference in growth can be astounding.

    Good luck, Willie
At my age, everything is irritating.

Thank you Jeep and Willie for your response. Much appreciated and I will try
both if I ever get a spawn that the female doesn't eat.

My experience with BBS, especially as documented in the grow out contest, is that it has made huge differences in growth and disposition. Like Willie, I also toss BH in there as well. Since it's already purified, it's easy for them to eat even if the chunks seem too large.
