Default Reverse engineering a Red Turq line

    Hi all,
I wanted to share a side project with you on my endeavors to get some red turqs for breeding. I could just buy some nice Red turqs as theres many out there for sale from our sponsors, but certain budgetary restrictions have put my fish buying days on hold for the foreseeable future. Whats a guy to do?

Well If you have been following the SimplyDiscus grow out challenge thread I have a really nice line of Fine Line Blue snakeskins. that I have been breeding extensively this last year... I was literally over run with fry. As I went from batch to batch I notices that the snakes threw a bunch turqs.. some very Blue ( pat has one nice example in her contest group) and some were very Red Turqish.. My last batch of fry in early summer I decided to try and keep some of the Red Turqish looking ones...grow them out and maybe get a red Turq line from them.. So far so good...

Heres the parents stock from the contest

Not too shabby for the first round? right? Ignore the snakes there, I kept a few of those too.

They look great! Due to space limitations myself, I've always stayed away from Turq's in favor of something a little more unique, but what I'm liking about these Turq's is that some are taking on the "tiger" type lines that the SS parents show but thicker. I think they are awesome!!

Al, you thinking of crossing some of these with the turks from the wild green/SS cross?

I think that you should seriously consider moving to Cairns, Australia so that I can buy some of those awesome looking fish. You'd like it here, so would your fish

Red turqs are my fave by far and those thin lined ones are awesome IMO. Red tiger turq! Ill have 12 please.
