At one of my normal birding haunts there was a puddle where a bunch of herring gulls were taking a bath. I always scan the gull flocks because you never know what oddity you will find. In this group there were two gulls I really am not sure what to call. I am leaning towards them being immature laughing gulls. Gulls are hard to Id because their plummage changes alot over their first few years and also between winter and summer.

Solitary Sandpiper stopped for a rest on it's way from Canada to Southern Florida or beyond. It's amazing how far small birds migrate.

What different cameras are people using here, I have the nikon p900 and the p1000 ,you can never have enough cameras what I like about these is you don't have to change lenses you can take these and stand the camera over a business card and take a picture for macro or you have the telephoto for distance.

I use Pentax Jeanne. Its what I started with in film days and since most pentax film and digital cameras are backwards compatible I just stayed with it. Some of my lens are 30-40 years old and still work pretty darn good..

    Dave, nice sandpiper!

I use Pentax DSLR camera bodies much for the same reason Al gave. I have moved up to the K-1 full frame body and really like the ability to take a very small crop of an image and blow it up life size without image degradation.

I keep eyeing that K1 Dave... I have so many full frame lenses I could use on it... but I will have to wait a bit longer.

    Al,
That thunderstorm photo that tied the monthly photo contest here was taken with the K1 and the 24mm 1:2 internal focus Pentax lens (the grey one that costs as much used as it did when it was new).

You won't regret getting the K-1. But then I love my K20d for some things like portraits, and the K-3 for some wildlife shooting.

Heres one that often goes over looked in marsh because it superficially resembles a Great Egret or snowy egret...Pat and I shared pics of little blue Herons.. The immature form of the Little blue heron is actually white. snagged this one in flight. You can tell hes not a great egret by the color of the legs ( blackish on the Great egret) and that its not a snowy which has black legs with yellow feet. The other giveaway is the Bill shape and color differ from a snowy.

Saw this fellow at a very long distance and snapped a few quick pics to ID it. The best image I got was this..

But with a little patience in PP..

Great no, but to ID it.. perfect.

Awesome! I would love to have owls nesting in my yard!

I hope you guy do not mind a couple frog images. I went with a friend to shoot the Swamp Sunflowers which are blooming this year and had a couple frogs who wanted in on the action.

That is so cool Mark. Appears to be a great horned owl I have barred owls around my place. Sometimes hear them at night.
