    Default Yellow Discus

    Morning everyone,

Husband has asked me to ask you (Hmm...I wonder what he is up to ) whether yellow discus overall tend to be more fragile and don't grow as big, which I have read here in a couple of posts. I understand there are complications with feeding these guys to keep them yellow, but do you find there are other complications, or are they the same as the others in terms of health?

Check out post #20 in this thread from Kenny's August shipment. JMO, but I think if you buy from a reputable dealer, they will be no different than others. Maybe I read something long ago about albino's not being as hearty, but I bet that's no longer the case. These are not albinos.

Besides the food issue (regarding maintaining yellow coloration wo oranging up) you are aware of, I have had no problem with any issues of growth or health with my yellows. My measurements were done crudely by holding up a ruler as opposed to netting them, but I feel my numbers are pretty close. If you desire yellows, I’d encourage you to go ahead with fish from a quality breeder/seller......you’ll love them. If you mix colors, just be sure the food you use has no color enhancers like shrimp, carotene, etc. Do know that these pics were taken in July.

All of the fish are nice. I think that we bought the ABM from Kenny same shipment. Mine was of the same size and is now also in the 6 inches.

Hi, what commercially available food do you feed yellows to prevent them from turning orange? Thinking of keeping one again. Thanks.

Australian black worms. Ally's idea of feeding grated frozen fish is a good easy idea for a "home made" food.

+1 on the FDBW. I also use Al's discus pellets.

Oh yeah, heart would work, too. Also 90% fat free ground turkey breast.

Thanks everyone! I am considering the yellows as more of an option now, and I am not too concerned about the feeding - will be doing FDBW and will look at Al's pellets too - so all kinds of shrimp is a no-no? Great to know that they aren't any different health wise.

    Peewee, your fish are gorgeous!

Danotaylor, that did make me laugh a little - how very goth; grating frozen deer heart, it cuts a very interesting image!

Ally, are you sure you're not a stand up comic in your spare time?
