Default Powerhead or Sponge filter for discus breeding tank?

Buying a 20 gallon hexagon tall fish tank for my breeding pair discus, just wonder if powerhead will work?

+1 on the sponge but a 20 gal is not a very good size for a breeding pair...a 29gal is minimum IMHO

I do power head with a sponge on the spicket and I also do a dual sponge filter in the same tank. or you can go with two sponge filters like Pat mentioned.

If you get fry, the powerhead will blow them all over the tank. I think a 20/29 is too small for a powerhead anyway. Definitely would recommend air driven sponge filters.

Get an undergravel filter plate and lifter tube, run your power head reverse flow. You set the power head on the sponge and blow set the flow to go down the riser tube of the undergravel filter plate.

This will stop the fast current and give you the high flow.
