How to determine discus sex
Hello folks,
I am desperate to know the most authentic way to determine the sex of discus fish before buying a pair.
Help please.

Some males look like females and vice versa. Males have longer streamers on their dorsal fins and females are usually rounder. The vent in a female is blunt like an eraser and the male is like the pointed end of a pencil. The only exact way would be to watch and see if the eggs hatch. Sometimes two females will mate.

The other thing I've noticed within my own pair is that the male tube section is a little sunken in while the female has a nice oval shape outward. If I find a photo I'll upload it.
It's very hard to tell though. I have trouble guessing it for my other discus.

If you enter "sexing discus" into the search window near the top of the page, you will find many posts on this subject.

If you are buying a pair ask if they're are "proven" meaning they have had fry at least at the wiggler stage. Pictures from theseller would confirm that status.
