That must have been disappointing. You came so close to success...If I were in your shoes, what with them getting closer and closer with every spawn, I'd keep letting them try. I've only given up on mine because they get to the same point, to where the eggs are just shy of wiggling, when they eat them. I hope the pair does better for you next time.

It's no joke the blacks are harder to breed and raise .
Hope fully the parents are getting better every time .
That really is how it happens .
The pair have made great strides the last couple of spawns Tom and I am patience. So no worries. The pair really do work together with no sign of any discord and I will learn with them. They tended the fry until free swimming so that is the next hurdle. As far as being harder to breed and raise, I'm up for that.

Don't do it unless you feel that all hope is lost. Your pair are overflowing with hope.

It's all good Liz but will admit to being a bit excited but I will continue to let them try. As far as your guys maybe you need to do something different?

The pair laid last night and it is a huge spawn and I think their largest. I am leaving Tuesday on a photography workshop so I will be removing the eggs as I will not feel hubby is comfortable with messing with this. I hate to removing this spawn but think it is for the best for now.

Since I have returned from my trip the pair have spawned twice with no forward progress in fry care. I am returned them to the 50 gallon with the rest of the rams. They have been breeding for quite a while and think it is time for a rest. I decided to do what Liz did get a pair from Tom. They come next week

Good idea, Pat. Tom's Rams have a brain in their heads as well as being extremely high quality.

Good luck on that. The blacks are not easy to photograph, but you have great choices of lenses to use.
