So I checked a couple times last night and I thought originally there were less fry on the water surface but instead they had spread themselves out on the surface of the water.
Tom, how do you light your tanks during the day and night?

I have a night light in the fish room and my LED lights that are on every tank turn on at 4am and off at 10 pm.
It is never completely dark in my fish room and others have been shocked by my lighting cycle ..
Well, you are an early riser. I have been leaving the moon lights on over the parents tank and if I feed late I will on the other tanks. Also where do you get your fry tanks from when you separate the eggs from the parents? I might try to so I can learn from the fry.

I artificially hatch in Dip and pours [specimen containers ]. The large are just under 1 g and float in tanks saving the need for another heater .
You need to do daily water changes and with fry it can be very time consuming .
Once free swimming I try to get fry into 2-5 g tanks within first or second week .
Here's how I hatched those parents would not or I did not want to risk with parents .
I'm disappointed too, Pat. Fish breeding always involves some disappointment. The only good thing about it is that we learn more from disappointment than we do from success due to $hit luck.

I was away most of the day yesterday so got caught on my fishy chores and noted the male of the black pair was hiding in the large pot. When I went to do a water change on their tank the female was very defensive. I grabbed a flashlight and yup, he is on eggs. So laid in the last 24 hours or so. Here we go again lol.

Alright Tom, what sizes of Golden Pearls should I use. Ordered a 2oz bag of each size from Ken's Fish.

I'm not Tom, but I start with the 50-100 and go up as they grow. My batch is on the next size up now.
I'm waiting to get an RO unit before I attempt to breed anything I'm working on except the BN and silly red platy's. They don't care about hardish water.
Mama Bear
Yes. I got lucky that that one batch hatched.
How often do you change water on your's and how often do you feed them?
