Default Clamped Fins and hovering in corner

a 5 inch blue diamond and 5 inch flachen received two days ago from Hans. Looked good on arrival.

In quarantine tank 40 gal breeder
    pH 6.5 aged tap water
    temp 30.3C
    nitrate, ammonia, nitrate 0/0/0
    no lesions.
Ate FDBW and a little beefheart first day and a half. Now picky with froen blood worms only.

Good color, clamped fins, near upper corner. may be starting to slough mucuous.
    No lesions, no poop seen
no lesions on skin or fins noted. Perhaps slight increase in respiratory rate.

On same day I received two of Kennys discus. Both doing very well, eating everything.

    No aggression at all

Please, no lectures on receiving fish from two sources on same day.

Just added 1 tablespoon per 10 gal sea salt.

    Sit tight or do something?

no idea but this is not fin burn from acidic or ammonia buildup during transport

My initial thought would be adjusting to the new environment. There would be some element of stress there and might need more than 2 days to acclimate and adjust properly.

Am I correct or incorrect in assuming you added these all together? Not a lecture, just a question...

all added on same day. My gut sense is that the ill appearing fish had a more stressful trip and likely harbored some pathogen that is now taking over because of the stress. No improvement. Moved the water to 90 degrees. other two are doing great.

Hi Andy, I always do 50% daily water changes on new fish the first week. This will help to handle a mini-cycle AND dilute any pathogens/bacteria brought in by the fish. I would not raise the temp at this point but 5 tablespoons of salt per 10 gallons will help the fish deal with stress from shipping and any CC.

The healthy looking ones may have passed on something to the not so well fish, too. The healthy fish may have the antibodies that the others don't. It's an interesting post.

The only thing to note is that it takes a bit to of time for a disease to show up, clinically, from one host to another. This occurred rapidly.

Actually, evidence of cross contamination regularly occurs in as little as 2 days. Even though I've never had to use it, I like to keep some Furan 2 on hand for emergencies.

Keep up with the water changes and salt and keep us updated. If it is CC, many cases can be treated with salt and clean water alone.

The salt and 90 degrees have helped a bit as one is beginning to move about more

Appreciate all the support and interest in my fish.

However, now I'm beginning to remember why I took a 15 year break from Discus. Hans and Snookin had just started bringing in the wild types and I had a medicine cabinet filled with just about everything you could imagine and my hair turned gray.

Sorry to hear, is the temp still at 90? If so please lower it to 82. Higher temp can make a CC issue far worse.

If this is CC and it hit within 2 days, my guess is a bacterial issue. I would recommend lowering the temp slowly to 82 and add salt at 1 TBS per gallon. Of course you know the value of consistent water changes.

Can you post photo's of these guys?
