Lighting
I have a 90 gallon tank with just a 4 foot strip light with one of those thick fluorescent bulbs. Looking for a better bulb to make their colors pop. I have 9 Discus. Red Melons, Pigeon Bloods and Blue Diamonds.

The Finnex LED's rock. If you're on a tight budget the Aquaneat LED's are good, too. Be sure to get the ones with pink bulbs as well as the red, white and blue alone.

Thanks Liz. So there’s no bulb that I can just put in my existing strip? Always heard LEDs are good.

Re: Lighting
There aren't a lot of choices when it colors of the tubes. All I've ever seen is cool light which has a bluish tint and warm light which is more yellowish.

I looked up the Finnex led. There’s a lot to choose from. I know you said what colors to get. Can you send a picture or model of the one you think would be good.

Re: Lighting
The model isn't written on it anywhere. Miranda suggested it to me. It's the same as the one she and Jose use in their fish room. Chicago Discus is a dealer so you might want to contact them and talk to Miranda.

Re: Lighting
If it's a standard t8/t12 bulb and fluorescent fixture you could use this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/toggled-...0230/301230357 . You just need to be able to do very basic electrical re-wiring because you have to convert the fixture from a shunted one to a non-shunted one. In other words, powered from one end instead of from both ends. I did this to convert my kitchen lights and it takes about 5 minutes to change them out and makes a huge difference.

Re: Lighting
You know, I've heard about those but promptly forgot it as soon as I heard it because I don't know if I could do the basic wiring. I understand they put out a lot more light and also use much less electricity.
I'm smart enough to replace a ballast. Do you think that makes me smart enough to do this?

I bought one of those Finnex Vivid LED lights from Miranda at Chicago Discus. Love the way it makes Discus colors pop. Thanks Liz.

Re: Lighting
If you are comfortable replacing a ballast, rewiring the fixture is actually easier. they have a video on the website that I just watched. Neat system, will definitely use on all my shop lights when I run out of fluorescent bulbs.
