You seem to be doing things right then. Do they have their own nets and what not for that tank only?

Yes I have everything separated from the other tank. Even the hoses and siphons used for waterchanges.

Well day 3 and the fish look like they are back to their old selves. What a huge improvement.

Thank you everyone I'll continue the salt treatment for the next 2 weeks but whatever was pissing them off seems to have vanished

Good to hear. I have a question tho. What did you change other than adding salt? Was it you in another post that was putting Prime in your aging barrel and let it sit in there. The salt would be useful in a case where they was ammonia and nitrites present in your water.
ps. you say your ammonia was good after afew hours; that's why I'm asking.

Hi Bluelaggon, besides the salt I reduced the percentage of water I was changing per day from 75 percent to 50. Jeep suggested going to 50% because of the fluctuations of water quality the winter months can have on some water supplies. The temperature was also increased to 93. As far as the ammonia reading goes on the other post I was referring to the ammonia reading in the aged barrel. Out of the tap there is about .25ppm of ammonia. A few hours after a water change testing the water i get a reading of 0ppm.

So, did you stop adding the prime to the barrel and let it sit there? Maybe it wasn't you.

I use safe I think its the same just in powder. I was originally treating the barrel but stopped doing that long before the fish were started showing signs of stress. Someone of the forum members suggested dosing the tank instead which make more sense. I was and still am changing the water every day so I don't think it had any negative effects.

Just an update. The fish are all doing well since the salt treatment was started. I stopped adding salt yesterday and over the next week or so i will start reducing the temperature down to 29.5C
