Default Single fish eating, but not growing

    Hello,

What are your thoughts if you have a certain discus in a school that is eating well, but not really growing like all the others? This fish I have is not bullied and is very active. Just not growing like all the others.

    thanks for advice.

Able to post pictures of that one in a group picture with it can you are others? Also, it could be a number of things. Give us some background? Age of fish? from the same spawn as any other fish in your group? How big is it right now? Water change routine. Size of tank. And anything else that my help provide more tailored feedback for you.

He could be genetics, it could be that you got a fish that should have been culled, could be stunted, a fish could also be delayed on a growth spurt and then all of a sudden start to catch up with the others, and there's other possibilities as well. Definitely those pictures would help.

it's normal for some strains to grow faster than others due to their genetic differences.

eating but not growing is a sign of worms. Not saying that's the problem but it could be. If the fish in question gets skinny it is likely worms. A head on pic of the fish as well as one of the entire group would help.

If it's worms, what will it look like headon?

Some strains grow slower than others do. Also, the warmer the water, the less oxygen. Reduce water temperature and increase aeration. High densities, feed limitations and other stressing factors reinforce slower growth cause. Slow growth does not always have to be a malady. It could just as simple as genetics and environment.

Without knowing more background, hard to slap the table just yet on worms. Liz is spot on with her questions to you but probably easier for her if you post pics and provide background than for her to explain in words.

Take pics with phone. Have the pic size set to be under 2MB (I always screw up that part) and post. Peewee is also 100% correct. Drastic causes but we can't tell without more.

Thanks, man. It would be much easier to explain if he posted pics and I could point things out. I don't think it's worms either but it is a possibility.

Dang, the poor guy almost needs to fill out the questionnaire. A few pics should make that unnecessarily. He should definitely not throw meds at the fish.

I didn't think about it earlier but could be a youngin. Hope he doesn't get scared off because I was young when I started with discus. If not young then that really makes me confused.

It could be a runt or worms. Why not deworm regardless if you have never done it. It's a win win.

    Thanks all for the responses.

Is there a link in this forum to the best practices for deworming process?
