Omg, they laid eggs. Right now.
A few months ago, I was really trying to breed my red pair. They showed no interest. So a few weeks ago, I put them back in to my main tank. And to my surprise today. Their breeding tubes are out, pecking at the cone and doing practice runs. :O
Yay!

Fun to see happening!!
It makes your heart go pit-a-pat, doesn't? Is this your first time to see it? I remember my first time. I was thrilled. I was on top of the world.
Mama Bear
Nice one Matt! Now what? Are you gonna transfer the pair and cone back into the breeding tank & see how they do?

This is the second time I have seen this, but the first time in a while. I fished out all the other discus and surprisingly they weren’t too startled and are still guarding the eggs. I am actually going to get some meth blue. Fingers crossed. They seem to appreciate the size of the 55g.
Matt
Why the meth blue?
Mama Bear
Oh, I use it as an anti fungal for the eggs. My water is quite hard so there is quite a lot of fungus. I know from past expert it’s discus and angelfish eggs.

I have a question, I have a canister filter on this tank. Should I cover the intake? It’s very tiny spaces. Like maybe 1mm between bars. I can cover it. Will this be better for the fry?
Matt
absolutely.
Mama Bear
Okay, thanks. I will try my best because the intake is relatively close to the eggs.
Matt
Your discus are talking to you....are you listening
Thanks Pat! I am so excited! Still fanning the eggs, I am so happy!
