I'm tossing in so even though I'm not sure it is there for them when they're ready for it. I'm hatching the San Francisco Bay stuff for them.

This morning I see that the blue kids are history but the blacks are still alive. During the day they try to learn to swim but also stick their heads to the tank sides and some spend most of their time on the bottom. I don't think that even if they all survive I won't have enough to make a big swarm, but I'll find out soon enough.

I woke up this morning to the cutest little swarm hovering around dad. As soon as I tossed in the BBS they scattered to go hunting. I can't believe how tiny they look swimming around in that huge (for them) tank. I worry about them all spread out like that, but that's what they have to do since they can't feed off their parents. I wish I could get a pic but I don't have the right lens for that.

Super excited for you Liz and congrats on the little ones. I recall Tom mention about training the little ones. I wonder what he does. My pair are on another spawn. I think they hatch later today.

Glad to hear you got free swimmers from one pair ..The EBR can be stubborn parents ..
As long as you see the fry eat you are doing good .
These guys are a lot more work then discus because all the parents do is herd them together or take them to food ..
They may shower the fry with food through their gills but I don't think that is a main feeding technique just supplement .
I trick train fry by mixing the smallest golden pearl [50-100 micron] in with the BBS ASAP ..Even decaps just so if they miss a shrimp they realize everything is food ?
They may figure it all out on their own but generally the fry are pretty needy for first 14 days ..

Tom, should I buy larger sizes for when they grow? Brineshrimp direct has lots of different sizes. Is that where you buy yours?

I get mine from Kens usually now .. I bought the 1,000 from BSD and found handwriting under the label saying 500-800 and it kind lit me up ? I had to use up enough to see the writing under the label but the jar was clear so ?
I have all sizes of the golden pearls and Kens grow meal 00-3. 2&3 are for adults IMO . You get free shipping if you buy enough so I try to order a bunch also for free shipping .. BSD gets you shipping everytime ...I order 2 lbs of BBS eggs now from BSD ata time and save $10 just in shipping ...
Rams just like small food IMO so I try to fed them food they eat lots of as opposed to food the eat only a couple pieces of .
I am seeing now also with the discus how fast they grow and change their food needs ..The rams will be much slower it seems?
It is like the discus are at 1 month where rams might be at 2 months ?
Get 100,200 , 300 and 500 and that should feed them all the way through along with other foods ..

Everything is rosy! Dad has the swarm around the red temperature control on the heater. I'm watching the other pairs for signs of any hanky-panky. It's nice to feel like I'm a success. All it took was a good pair.
