Awesome! That was quick!!
I did it this time anyway. I'm pumped! Tom said that he thought that I'd have better luck with the Rams that he's been breeding that take parent raising in stride. Sure enough, the first time his Jet Black spawned they have gotten them to wigggler stage and moved them.
Last night when the eggs started getting fewer in the spawning plate I knew that I'd either wake up to no eggs or a bunch of wigglers in a different place. It's so hard to see those little wigglers in a tank dark with tea but I followed dad with my eyes and found his hiding place. It chose an excellent place! I just lay my heaters on the bottom of my tanks. I didn't remove the suction cups from this particular heater. One of the cups was suction part up. That's where dad put them. Jet Black wigglers nestled into a jet black suction cup. Smart. I give them a shot of newly hatched BBS figuring that if they were too young to take it their parents would clean it up.
Tom, this is the pair in the 20 gallon tank so ever since they spawned I've been lowering the water level by a gallon+ every day. I don't know what else to do. Do you recommend I do anything else at this point?

Awesome! That was quick!!
This is great Liz !
Congrats !
The tank half filled will be fine IMO ..
You keep the water and food proper and they will do the rest !
At least we hope so ..
Full moon wigglers, maybe stronger ?
The wigglers are wiggling away in the little suction cup where dad moved them. When I go down to the fish room and look at them the parents are often out and about together. But as soon as I walk toward their tank to look at them, dad runs to the eggs to protect them from me. This is way cool!
Mama Bear
Yeah! So happy for you Liz! Bravo!
It's not a "bravo" yet, luv. It will be bravo worthy when I get a swarm. I love this!
Mama Bear
Not true! Be happy with each step achieved. The knowledge learned takes you that much closer to predicting how best to get certain outcomes.
i am getting ready to move my fry to a 30 gallon so I can try this again with a dark pair. I have so much more to learn about these fish. But, each step deserves a bravo!
You are absolutely correct.
Mama Bear
It means you got good water!
The ' this is way cool ' and ' I love this ' is where it is at ..
Watch fry grow is cool ..Hopefully these two will have fry in tow soon .
I am happy to know they are fun for you ..I never chose rams with out telling my story ..
They chose me before I knew any of the hoopla ! They can hook you with their personality ..
Hope to see some babies photos soon...Congrats Liz.

That's great news Liz. Watching expectantly!!
My Electric Blues spawned in a sneaky spot. There's a good many eggs, too. I hope I found their hiding place and put tea in the water in time for them.
Mama Bear
It's Ram central!! Whoop whoop
The black babies are scooting around on the tank bottom. I hope the parents don't pick them up and eat them. Dad is still tending to the blue pairs eggs. I should know if there are wigglers tomorrow. Discus are much less subtle in caring for eggs and wigglers than these Rams are. The point that the babies get up and create a swarm of babies is the second most stressful in breeding both

Are they eating BBS yet?
