    Default Cardinal Tetras

    Hi all

I keep 20 or so adult Cardinal Tetras with 8 4" juvenile discus.

Woke up this morning to find half a Cardinal body on the bottom of the tank. So if you are wondering whether discus will eat cardinals, the answer is yes!

Cardinals are great with discus, but they're temporary...

They last longer if you grow them to full size before you dump them in the Discus' tank.

Most Discus are voracious eaters .
Having a partially eaten fish does not mean it died from being eaten.
Fish eat fish ,most eat dead fish whether by our own hands or not .
How long have you had the cards ?
I am not proclaiming the discus innocence just saying you may want to look closer .

Yeah, it doesn't work. They aren't really compatible.

They will disappear one by one. The rummy nose is a bit bigger, but I've watched discus take them out too.

I have seen far to many Discus tanks with large groups of Cardinals that had been together well over a year and longer. I'd say the Cardinals are one of the most popular tank mates for Discus. There are so many variables and possibilities to simply say the bigger fish did it. Keeping the Discus well fed, providing hiding spots the tetras can get away if needed, growing them up together, etc....... It's not a sure thing like a Great White and a Bonita, lol!!!!

I haven't had the best of luck either with keeping cardinals with discus not sure if they have gotten eaten or just a weak group of fish. Ive had much better luck with the rummy nose tetras. I have had a group of 40 with my discus for over a year without any getting eaten.
