Default Second time the charm(breeding of Rose Red and Royal Red)

Lets hope this works out this time lol my separate tank comes by in a few week and they just laid eggs again. So I build an egg crate and tied it with Mesh so now it is stable and the other discus won't knock it down. Hopefully all babies will come out. Last batch the golden albini disturbed their mating and 75% of the eggs were dead/unfertilized. Hopefully I see all 50+

Sorry to say mate but they're not a good pair. The rose red is a non-PB type and the royal red is a PB type. This cross will most likely give you heavily peppered fry.

I'm afraid that Danny's correct. It's hard to be the bearer of bad news.

Okay, I've seen plenty of non-PB with PB crosses in the past and agree they're just not desirable... but for some damn reason I really am curious with that pair. I've had a tangerine PB and RT form up in my tank a long time ago (and the female was the PB and she was UUUH-GLY... tons of peppering on face), but that stunted, ugly pair was the first pair I ever had that fended off all tankmates in community tank to raise fry (without me interfering). So I can certainly appreciate just seeing what happens .

To get a new strain is extremely hard and time consuming. You have to have a huge number of tanks. You have to develop multiple lines at the same time so that you can cross them back together at a later date. Very few people have the resources to get it done. One wise man mentioned this to us.

I jokingly disagree, in less than a year I have created a Dwarf Discus strain aka stunted but not runted

I imagine that all of us have done that before we joined the form and started reading around.

These days most of the Red melon kind strain are being crossed with golden based to get the clean look. In that case it's "okay" to cross Red melon and Red Cover. I've seen people do it and they produced fry with no peppering.

Dennis's royal red's are def PB based though, not golden based.
