They are very fat Liz and yes, all the rest. I have been trying to restore some of the color to the three smaller, dull looking Heckels and I have found running a dim light over the tank is part of the key. These three Heckels are actually young heckels I bought from Peter Low at the 2018 Discus Show and they were about 4 to 4.5 inches and they are still growing. The interesting thing about them is their shape is different then the adult Heckels (the bluer ones) which I have had about 10 months yet.

Exceptional quality on these guys, Pat. You must be living the good life to get wilds with this roundness. They also look very comfortable. What are your water parameters?

At my age, everything is irritating.

I was wondering if anyone would notice Cliff, you are thinking the same as myself? The water is not right but I am hoping for interesting future developments

Thank you Willie, They are still skiddish at times but as long as I move slow it is all good. Tap water at the moment so totally unsuitable for Heckels. The plan is to relocate them to a biotope tank soon (230 gallons) and then slowly drop TDS, KH, GF and Ph to something more suitable.

Hi Andy, a few different places. Four of them came from Peter Low at the 2018 Discus Show, four came from Jimmy's Discus who disappeared off the face of FB about a year to so ago and one is an older heckel from snookn21 (John K). PMed me with what you may be looking for and I might be able to hook you up.

Pat, how old were the 4 to 4.5 inch Heclels when you purchased them? What size have then grown to since?

Hi Peewee, I have a theory that 4 to 4.5 wilds are about a year to 18 months old BUT best guess only. In the time I have had them (since July 2018) they are almost the size of the adult Heckels. Here's a vid from two months ago for comparison. In my experience wilds grow well into their second year so these guys could have some growing still to do.

Pat, I got a 4 inch Heckel in July that seems to still be 4 inches. I suspected a runt but perhaps it will just take same as yours. Another year of growing. Which was why I asked. Thanks for getting back to me.
