    Default How to treat scratch

One of my adult turquoise has a large circular scratch on her side. It doesn’t appear to be through the skin.
She is clamping her pectoral fin on that side and staying in the bottom corner of the tank.
Is there a treatment for this or should I just hope she gets better on her own

Hi Robert. Circular scratch? Do you have any plecos in with it? Some are known to attach to discus at night to feed on the slime. Scratches usually heal themselves over time with clean water. If there's concern about infection, sometimes adding salt is recommended.

No other fish than discus. I’m thinking that she may have scratched herself on a rock when I did a water change and got spooked.
    It’s elliptical and 1”X2”
There are 7 other discus in the same tank. Will salt be harmful to them or should I move her to a smaller tank if I treat her. I’m going to see if it heals on its own first

Keep up clean water changes and it should heal up. Adding 3 TBS salt per 10g won't hurt a thing and help bacteria away!!

Should I use regular iodized salt?

Hi Robert, regular iodized salt is fine.

When you are creating a new post look at the icons along the top and you will see an square looking icon (third in from the right hand side) and if you mouse over it you will see "Insert Image". Click on that and a dialog will pop up. Use the computer tab and click on the "Basic Uploader" button. You will see where you can browse and upload your image. Note that the image must be 2MB or less. When you are done you will see this process added a little code to your post. Do not remove it.

Can't clearly see the picture on my phone, could the circle scratch be from a siphon hose?

Yes I have. The fish started to get better almost immediately after adding salt
