I do not have access to microscope also they aren't showing the scratching behavior any more

I thought things were getting better but I woke up to this on my german wonder

I am at a loss again. I was getting ready to order some more to add to the remaining 5 but now im not so sure. I honestly thought they were getting better!! I haven't even done anything different besides the new buffered water. I even took pumps out of the equation and have been using buckets.

At this point do I assume they are all sick and try to start with a different batch of fish? I can't imagine the fighting with only 4 of them in there if this one dies

I'm at a loss as well. I still can't help but think this has something to do with the leaky pump. Possibly the lubricant has damaged their organs???

This has to be water related!!

Shan, if you do decide to keep the 4, and get more I would them set up in a different tank (purchase as large as you can afford, and choose a different supplier). We have similar water. At this point, I am inclined toward the fish end of the equation as the problem.

I'd take the rational approach and start again. I've never had discus get better unless the initial treatment works, which means that the fish got better by itself half the time despite my treatment. Don't prolong the agony.

Thanks guys. I can't afford to get a brand new tank at the moment, but also because I highly doubt it has anything to do with my tank setup after much trial and error.

I will try again with baby angels from a LFS and see how they do.

Edit. He died before my eyes.

I feel bad for you Shan. When something like this hits someone, it's usually over pretty quickly. You've had to watch them go one by one over a long period.

Hopefully you can keep in touch with this person and see how he does with them. This may give you some answers...

Fish get sick. When it happens, moving on is the best approach. I've seen people go crazy on their equipment after getting sick fish. That's seldom necessary.

Disease pathogens, whether it's bacteria, fungus or virus, cannot survive without the host. Running your tank empty for 2 - 3 weeks is the most logical way to clean it up. Wiping it down and changing water a couple of times usually seals the deal. If you're really concerned about contagion, contact with a 20% Clorox solution for 20 minutes will kill everything. Keeping an empty tank means you'll get in when the next great deal pops up.

I kept a couple of empty tanks running and ended up with this great deal from Winnie's Discus five weeks ago.

Couldn't have gotten these Golden Leopard Intermediates if I didn't have empty tanks running.

too bad you are so far away , if you were closer i'd given you a few culls .
healthy , but with a funny shape or a bit stunted , you always have a few like that when you breed .
maybe someone in your area can help you out .
at least you can see if they stay alive this time without spending a lot of money .

So sorry. I have been following your journey. You made every effort. A fresh start when you are ready and able sounds like a good choice.
