What do you guys think about getting this and running it in my aging barrel for 24 hrs?

Do what Brian suggests. Especially the carbon block. I wouldn't do the PP.

I have the greatest respect for Kenny and I'm sure he gave you way more specific instructions than what you just handed out here. PP is dosed by weight not volume. You specifically said 1 or 2 spoons. What size spoons? Tbs? Tsp? PP needs always to be weighed for x number of hrs to x volume water.
Even a small amount too much will kill any fish.
On a different note, you had an external bacterial infection, these fish appear to be suffering from an unknown internal infection that PP will not fix.
I believe Brian is on track with this.
Btw my information on PP and use of hydrogen peroxide comes from Dr Ruth Floyd at the University of Florida.
With respect,
Tammy

Hi everyone thank you all. I literally just purchased this carbon block filter thingamabobber and made a quick short video with a few questions. You can skip and scroll past for question rehash. I really appreciate it

Should/Can I do a large water change with this carbon block'd water?
Should I keep dosing prime with this?
Thank you!

Like I said, I would just run a single pass through the filter and leave it outside the barrel, at least this is what I do. A barbed tube fitting will attach to whatever size tubing you use, or you can reduce it if you want. And yes, you need to continue using prime because the filter will remove chlorine but not chloramines.
Keep your water changes down until we get a handle in this...
Those cartridges may say life in terms of months, but they are really measured in gallons. I think 5000 gallons, maybe a little shorter since you're not using a sediment prefilter, so be aware and estimate the lifespan.

Posting Dr. Floyd’s paper here: https://freshwater-aquaculture.exten...Infections.pdf
And putting this discussion about PP to rest, so Brian can focus on his fish.
I wish to dose PP. But strictly following a guide with proper gram to liter ratio, etc etc.
But Liz saying not to do PP now is making me reconsider.
For the time being I will keep low water changes and continue out the metro medication.
Side Note. My discus really haven't ate at all for almost a week now. Medication supposed to last until Sunday which is another 5 days. Worrysome

You are dealing with internal bacteria and not external parasites. Why Potassium Permanganate treatment.?

I don't know what I'm dealing with quite frankly and I'm just worried. But don't worry I'm not doing anything like I said, just considering what I can do. From my little bit of reading of PP I liked the idea of it and I read it wouldn't hurt therefore it was a possibility. Won't do it if it actually does harm

It doesn’t look like internal to me, keep me honest here... the first sign is a boil of sorts on the body of the fish, correct?
Also, have you thought about quarantining the infected fish?

The white spot on the side of the fish looks like a bacterial node, it goes away with water changes. They occur when water chemistry changes and go away within a few days.
