If you are growing out baby discus from quarter size to 4 inches, 90% daily water is the mininium to grow them to their potential and keep them healthy.
I see a lot of talk here about large water changes could someone define what is considered large percentage wise
Thanks Jeanne

At my age, everything is irritating.
I would say anywhere between 50-100% is a large water change. I change about 80% daily in all my tanks.
I always considered over 75% large .For the discus I like to remove water till 1 inch is left...That would be 90% + IMO ?
To me 50% is minimum as less seems like doing too little to be beneficial IMO ..
I think most folks like to age their water for large WC's. Water that comes in under pressure from the tap is not safe enough in many cases. Either gases or ph swings. I do close to 80-90% with aged water. I have CO2 gases or lack of O2, no ph swing.
Rain or shine 80% daily....DSCF0737.jpgDSCF0835.jpgDSCF0859.jpg

It's a large water change if you can get all the crap out of the tank.

If your discus are 5 plus inches and using RO water, what do you recommed? Ed
It depends on how large you want your discus to grow. If you changed 100% once a week when they get to 5", most discus will make it to 5.5" - 6". But if you want them to get larger than 6", you'll need more frequent water changes and bigger tanks. The ones in this tank are all > 6" because that's my objective.
