Pretty sure that is an external unit.
You will need a pump to push water through it .
The slower the more contact time and the more effect it can have .
Hi Everyone -
How many of you use a UV Sterilizer? I exchanged a very annoying and loud Coralife air pump that I had for their UV Sterilizer. It's the Coralife Turbo Twist 6x (for up to 250g).. My tank is 125g.
Where's the best placement for it in the tank?

This is an external, you can HOB or put it in series out of sight with either a canister or sump system. What I find confusing is that the manufacturer rates this as a max flow rate of 400 GPH, beyond that you get clarification, not sterilization. Your tank at 125 should have external filtration running at 4x tank volume/hour minimum or 500 GPH. I guess if you want both you need to divert some of the flow away from the unit, that requires a flow meter. Seems annoying.
The UV can produce conditions like a baby in a bubble, where in the almost germ free environment, your fish will grow super fast, large, and seem to be healthy. But, if the UV stops or you take it out, the fish can suffer and get sick
