    Default New discus not eating

Hi all, wasn't sure which section to post this in.

I have a 6 month old tank (60g, bb) housing 8 young adult discus (Growing them out).

Unfortunately a few weeks ago a fish died because he was spooked in the night & swam at break-neck speed into the glass.

The next day I ordered a replacement fish (Same breeder, same strain same size). I added the new fish to the tank. The new fish despite being a decent size (5") was initially bullied & it became obvious that it would take some time for it to settle in.

3 weeks on & the bullying has largely subsided however the new fish has seemed to have accepted it's role at the bottom of the ladder and is not eating much at all (Only picking at the odd fdbw, won't touch pork heart). I have seen no signs of illness, damaged fins, no white poop etc.

Is this just a matter of patience or is there some sort of intervention I can take to force a re-shuffle of hierarchy within the tank?

    Thanks

As long as it is eating your alright. Not sure of the benefits of pork heart. Seems like all over the world people feed different types of heart. Beef heart started it. It’s not a natural food it was done because people couldn’t afford fish living inland. Your fdbw is a much better choice. Also if you can get the black worm flakes and some pellet food. My discus eat everything dropped in. Mince the pork heart and feed it once or twice a week right before your water changes. This way you remove all the left over food.

Would you first cook the pork heart? Eating under cooked pork infected with Trichinella spiralis can lead to trichinosis in humans. Would fish be at risk as well?

Not sure where you guys are base, guessing USA?

Here in South East Asia pork heart is used as a staple discus food. I buy it prepared into cubes frozen from the breeder. All discus specialists feed it here alongside 100% daily wc. I also feed some pellets & marine flakes.
