So cool Bill!! What type of koi is this one with the fancy fins? There seemed to be 3 or so of them on the clip. Very pretty!

    Daniel,

That blk/wht koi is my single prize (very costly) butterfly koi. He was a gift from my wife six years ago. He’s about five pounds and a joy to watch and feed. Some of these koi are over twenty years old. The biggest is coming up on two feet and 8-10 pounds. I purposely do not over feed to attain huge sizes. Fish health is my paramount goal. Had I really fed the heck out them, I suspect size and poundage would be much much more. They’re cool in the basement pond, but really shine and flourish when outside. I’ll make a better video later on and better show the fish. This was a moment of joy vid.

Very nice Bill. That was a nice gift from wifey. I remember you telling me last year to have a deep pond edge so that the herons can't pick off your prizes...love to get a backyard pond at my place!

I'll bet that tree keeps the alge controlled. I use fishing line across my pond after a few heron visits.

The big tree does a fair job, but the summer sun does still make algae......still use two UV bulbs. 25w w my circulation pump and 37w in the Hydro-Max external filter box. It’s 36”x24”x24” w chambers for mech filtration, bio filtration, and the discharge chamber which has a built in UV bulb as the water exits to the upper small pond 400g) that then does the waterfall thing into the larger pond (6,000g).

Beautiful Koi Bill! I have just 1 Koi with my 7 goldfish in my small backyard pond. Ponds are well worth every bit of expense and work aren't they?

Thanx Barb. Yes they are indeed.

Jay.....the outside temps today were in upper 50s and my pond water is 52. Glad you asked....I had forgotten to put out the pond thermometer.
