Lost some more fry yesterday morning. None today that I can tell. I think I still have in the low 20's.

The fry were detaching from the pair and swimming throughout the tank. After some research and some help (thanks Pat!), it was decided and confirmed that my aquarium lights were too intense for the fry. I had noted previously that when the evening came and I turned off the aquarium lights, the fry would gravitate back to the pair. The pair would also go on a "search and detain" fry expedition. Each time I would lose a little more fry. So yesterday, latter afternoon, I swapped out my existing aquarium light for a less intense version I had in storage. It also had a dimmer switch on it. So far, as of this morning, no fry are moving very far away from the parents. Seems like the problem might have been solved. Perhaps by the weekend, I can increase intensity a little since the fry will be a week old then.

    Anybody else run across this?

Great to heard that the lighting was the issue Frank. BTW, the lighting being an issue was id-ed by one of our SD sponsors.

Sure thing, Frank. I am glad the problem was identified. Handsome parents, next batch will be a more fun experience. Best of luck with all fry!

Things are progressing. Still on the parents, eating constantly.
I have been BBS 2-3x a day. They will be an official week old on Sunday. How often should I be giving the BBS?

Great news Frank, I would suggest six times a day if you can swing that. Time for more pics of you have time for that.

The pictures are not as clear since the tank is much dimmer. But here are a couple.
Still hanging around the 20 number. There are some on the other side.

On my first batch there were under 20 and then the pair laid eggs again and just like Liz told they would they ate the fry !
They were good sized fry I could not believe that they were able to eat them but they did .
The good news they raised the next set with over 40 fry like champs ..
Just sharing how my first fry went in case you see them lay eggs again soon ..

You are not discouraging anybody, Tom! Very helpful. How many days were they?

I am watching the parents for any indication that they are preparing the cone for another spawn. I am guessing but I think the fry eating off their slime coat simulates their nurturing nature. Of course, things can go very wrong under the sun. If they lay another set of eggs I am moving them (ultimately) to my 40g breeder tank.

They were at least 7 days after attaching when the pair laid eggs and then the older got eaten shortly after .
If I had known for sure [Liz did tell me ] I would have moved the older fry .

Still eating 24/7 and growing! I think I have the same quantity of fry. Parents are still doing well. Hopefully my stumbling around with the light did not slow down their growth too much. I think they are still finishing off their egg yolk anyway the first 24 hours or so after attachment. I have upped the BBS feedings as I can tell the fry are eating them. Tomorrow will be the first week - 7 day birthday. Still watching the female to see if she gets interested in the cone. Not yet.

The picture really does not do justice to the growth rate of these fry.

Got some 200-300 micron Golden Pearls. Can these be fed to the fry? If so, when? And, how?

Feed them as soon as the fry seem big enough to eat them .
They are good stuff in my book and I feed golden pearls to all my fish of all sizes .
I just drop them on surface and they mix into the water column eventually sinking.
YOu can even mix them in with the BBS to trick train them to eat prepared foods ..
The fry should quickly out grow that size IME but if they like them they will still keep eating them .
I have sizes 100 -1,000. I get mine from Kensfish as they are most affordable from him compared to other sites like BSD .

Thanks Tom. I think I will try mixing them with the BBS first.
