Submersible pump. Order off Amazon and then buy cheap, by the foot hose from Lowes.
Hi,
I’m looking for ways to make water changes more time efficient. I currently have two aquariums and am curious what others do to save time. I currently use a gravity fed siphon.
Does anyone use a pump to remove water? How about water storage? Barrels with a pump to refill?
Thanks for any ideas and suggestions,
John

If you have at least a 55 gallon tank, consider buying a 1-inch diameter pond tube to drain it. Keep your eyes on your discus during the process cause you don't want them getting too close.
With your tank raised above, a gravity feed Python should work very well. Once the flow starts, draining the water doesn't take much more time than vacuuming out the bottom and wiping down the surfaces. Ten years into this hobby, I was able to cut my water change time in half - by buying a second Python! I do use a pump to bring conditioned water from a lower tank into the discus tank.

At my age, everything is irritating.
With pump assist you'll probably be able to empty a lot quicker than you can treat & refill. I do about 100g change on my 125g. in about 30min. My pump is a LifeGuard Quiet One 6000 Pro Series. Cleaning filters takes a bit longer but that's a monthly chore, WC's are weekly. "T"
