Quarantine or Not

Always heard that its a good idea to purchase from the same Breeder if you can. And I have in the past. I have a 20 gallon quarantine tank that has a leak. Small crack in it. Thinking about purchasing 2 more adult Discus. If I buy from the same breeder that I purchased my existing stock from can I get away without quarantining? Maybe add some meds to the tank?

Is this a breeder or an importer? With only one exception, importers have discus from multiple hatcheries, and different hatcheries, every time. If it's a local breeder, were you able to visit and see the fishroom and parents? If you've seen the parents and inspected the fishroom to ascertain its disease free, then breaking quarantine can be considered. Even then, it's just not a good idea. If you haven't seen the hatcheries, then it's a complete crap shoot.

You can buy a 20 gal tank off Craig's List for $20 versus risking a tank of discus. Adding meds is irrelevant to quarantine.

I know you guys are right. I will get another tank. He is breeder and I have seen his hatcheries. But why take a chance. I guess I knew what the answer was all along. Just being lazy. Better safe than sorry. Thanks.

Good decision! A lot can change between the first purchase and the 2nd...
