That is a wonderful story and Tom's pics more than did it justice. The story and the pictures go together beautifully. I'm impressed.
Tom and I went to Joe Overstreet and found these guys. The pair had four chicks and they are totally adorable. The chicks were learning how to feed themselves but a parent would call them and all four would flock to mom to see what she head.
First time away from the house since the Stay At Home order. Tom is trying his photography legs for the first time.

Sorry I misread. They were so dang exceptional for a newbie. I'm used to you impressing me with your photography. You could make money selling photos. They're that good. (hope I didn't make you blush)

Beautiful pics Pat! That specie of water fowl is abundant in the wetlands of Australia also, not sure if they're native or introduced, but their colors are magnificent when the sun hits them just right...you caught both their majesty and awkwardness simultaneously...nice work. I agree with Liz, you could sell your pictures, they're that good!
Danny, not sure if they are introduced there in Australia but there is a very close cousin there..Australasian swamphen (Porphyrio melanotus)
Our "New World" purple gallinule (Porphyrio martinicus) looks very closely like the Australian species. There is also a european species, " Old-World "purple gallinule, which is the western swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio) that looks the same. Gallinules have gotten around a bit I guess. All are beautiful birds!
That was probably too much info but Hey,Im a birder..we like that stuff.
Pat you know this one is one of my favorites. If I had the in CT I would spend hours on them daily.I find them one of the most challenging birds to because of the shiny purple and how we usually see them out in bright sun.
Nice pics! And I'm glad to hear you got Tom out with the camera!

Thank you Danny, these guys are hard to photography well. I did ok. They have a beautiful red eye which is hard to capture but managed to capture it in this image. Also we have another Gallinule species which is invasive to Florida and could pose a future problem for our native one.

So beautiful Pat, great shot to capture the array of blues and turquoises...the red beak & eye are a shocking contrast...so cool!
