Any clown loaches keeper? I may have a problem.

Just noticed my loaches locking jaws and both have a red protrusion on their mouths. Not sure if it’s mating,fighting or something wrong and they’re trying to remove them from each other. 6 yrs I’ve never seen this. Everything is good in the tank. They look fine but color is faded.

I have seen this . It is either seasonal or when barometric pressure changes ?
You would think with over 20 years with my clowns that I would know better but I don't !
I will say if sources are correct it is usually the largest that battle and they are supposedly the females .
They usually settle down .I have never lost one from the fighting .
I still have my original 11 that have been with me for 16-20+ years ..

Thanks coral. They’ve never done this before. Not really much info on loaches out there. Both sleeping now so hopefully it’s all over.
