Update.
OK, it's been 9 months how I have been keeping Discus with Fancy Goldfish. I still consider it a huge success.
The goldfish definitely clean up after the discus and the discus actually seem to like the company of the goldfish.
Plus it gives you something to look at besides a bunch of fish doing nothing but bickering and staring back at you.
However, there is indeed one downside.....
When the Fancy Goldfish get big, (and they get huge, ya know!), they stop eating poop and only go for the food.
This has happened to me numerous times now.
So, when that happens, they either need to find a pond to live in, or I trade them back to the lfs for some small ones.
This is the case right now in my main tank.
112 gallon with 7 large discus.
Every morning I vacuum out a huge pile of poop.
About 5-10% of the tank water and replace.
More about my thoughts on WCs in a new thread I will start later today.
Fish are very happy and healthy.
So friendly I can touch them.
3 pairs and one loner.
They are not the size of dinner plates, but I honestly don't want that.
I just like healthy, colorful, lively fish that don't get sick.
Have not had a sick fish now in nearly a year.
They are all much larger than my hand.
Just my thoughts on this subject.
Not saying I am right.
Just my thoughts and experience with Discus and Goldfish.

I have two questions, Vinnie. Do the gold fish have to the the fancy variety and is there such a thing as a miniture gold fish? Like with most animals there a little versions and big versions? Will the plain run of them gold fish work in the same way as the fancy do?
