A 20 high or a 29 both make good breeding tanks for Angels and Discus both.

Discus have a wide range of temperature tolerances. I just now researched it. The temperature range of the Amazon is 84 to 86. I would suspect that the breeder/suppliers must vary somewhere in the low 80s for domestic fish. By mistake i now have a spawning pair that have been happy at 80. I set the thermostat to 86 when I first set up the breeding tank when my finger told me that the waster was too cold. The pair spawned but the water still seemed cold to my finger so I bought a TDS meter that had a temp option. I was horrified to learn that the temp of the water was between 80 and 81 but the pair were eating and spawning so I have left them be at 80 degrees. I have a second tank with a different brand thermostat set at 84 degrees . It seems warmer to my finger.Sure enough hen I checked that one the temp reads 81. This tank has been running for about 2 years.

I keep all my Discus tanks at 82 or 83. They do fine in higher temps but why waste the electricity when the lower temps are just fine. I will bump up the temp for growing babies sometimes. It gets their systems working faster and they eat more grow more and poop more.

Low 80s, Vinni. If you maintain your home at 69 then your heater only has to move the water temp 13 degrees to get you to the sweet spot of 82.
