    Default Headstanding

    Hey guys,

I'm currently working so kinda have to make this short but looking for some insight. I'll fill out the questionnaire asap but if anyone has any insight I would appreciate it.

I have 6 discus in a bare bottom 55g. 5 of the discus are doing great and 2 of them are even laying eggs every day or 2. I got one that started slightly head standing 2 days ago and yesterday got to the point of being pretty much vertical.

I do daily water changes of 30-40%. Yesterday I did a larger than normal water change because of the discus acting this way and added 1 table spoon of salt per 5 gallons.

Today the fish is doing the same thing but trying to swim and going a little horizontal at times when it tries to. It also has a little excess slime. It's fins are not clamped up and it's a little dark but keeping most of its coloration. I can not see any swelling in the abdomen area.

Based on what I'm reading I think it's having an issue with its swim bladder? Any suggestions on what to do? I'm not sure if it trying to swim and moving around more today is a good sign but I want to try and save this fish if possible.

    Thank you all.

    Hi Tony,

If you can upload some pictures and the questionnaire that would be great. I think you’re off to a good start with initial treatment, you could try epsom salt to relieve any potential constipation . What temp is your tank at?

    Hey Brendan,

Thank you for the response. I had an AC leak and haven't been able to respond here.

The temp in the tank is 88 degrees. I did get some Epsom salt yesterday and added that after a water change.

The fish got real bad the day before yesterday and was in the top corner just laying there and the fins started to look bad. Yesterday there were signs of improvement even before the Epsom salt.

Today the fish is recovering and still slightly leaning but way better. It actually is eating and swimming with the rest of the school but will occasionally still lean by itself for a while.

I think we're headed in the right direction and I'm very hopeful now. 2 days ago I thought it was a goner for sure.

This doesn't sound like swim bladder. More like possible bloat or infection. I would like to see good close up photo. I would also reduce the heat to 82.
