Default Decision Time - new tank

I have a new tank on pre-order a UNS 90u roughly 36x22x22 68gallon. I have three possible uses for the tank: a natural aquascaped tank or a planted tank for either 4 - 5 discus or Altum angelfish. I am a little concerned that the length is only 36", has anyone kept angelfish or discus in a tank this size? I see that others keep discus in a 40g tanks but I am not convinced. Thanks.

I have my Altums with my Dantums in a 65g 3 foot tank for a year now no problems .There are about 15 angels all over 6 inches at least now .
Likewise I have 12 discus in a 65g 3 foot tank and they are growing well. A couple of the discus are easily at the 5 inch mark now .
They both might like a bigger tank but IMO the height and volume is how the group manages so well.
65g is a good volume of water .Others may like the foot print of a 55 or 75 better but space is key in my fishroom and both the 3 foot tanks are in the middle of the room .
No room for 4 footers there ..

I have kept Koi angels in a 56 tall for years.
With a lot of other tank mates and a huge castle in the middle.
Angels spawned many times on the castle.

That is a nice size you have there.

I'd be concerned with the height of a 22" tank for altum angels. The ones I have are 12 months old and the tallest ones are 9" already. I expect that they'll get to 12" (although I'm hoping for 14"). I ended up buying a 110-gallon tank, which is 31" high, for the altums. Your tank size, however, would be fine for discus.

Plus a gentleman who works for me and helps out a great deal with maintenance does not like angels!

Change a lot of water if you want him to grow up big!

Well he’s gonna need 4-6 changes a day and I’m sorry to say but that tank is way to small! May want to start with a playpen. Now for feeding I’d stay away from the fdbw and go right to gerber. Yes maybe there beef whatever . But still stay with the 6 plus feeding a day. Oh and remember these days! These are the fun ones! Next thing you know they’re drinking all your beer! .

Yes great looking but the problem is they take so long to breed . And more important what is the red thing on the wall behind him? Fire alarm?

We appear to have another planted tank in the making. Please excuse the window reflections, the tank is in my office.
