Ok, I should have said metronidazole is the only proven antimicrobial treatment for Hexamita. Like Megalodon said, any nitroimidazole would probably work, but they haven't been tested as a treatment for Hexamita and their effectiveness is unknown.
I thought in your initial post you were asking for an alternative drug to treat Hexamita.
Yes there are 2 alternative treatments for treating Hex.
I've never used the heat treatment but if others have had success with it, it would definitely be the simplest way to treat.
I've never used the Epsom salt treatment either, but if the fish are still eating, it could be a good alternative for anyone having trouble finding metronidazole.
